Training Topics

Our workshops can be delivered in-person or remotely by our trainers. All of the training is interactive, with live discussions, question & answer sessions and skills practice.

Note for remote delivery: Attendees will be encouraged to have their cameras on during the training as this helps generate engagement and interaction with their trainer and other participants. If special circumstances mean that a participant may have to switch off their camera occasionally their camera please let us know in advance. The Learning Curve Institute does not record workshops, and participants are not permitted to make audio or visual recordings.

Boundaries, Reflective Practice and Self-Care

Whether working from home or back at your usual place of work or in a hybrid arrangement, personal and professional boundaries may become blurred. This workshop provides an overview of boundaries and includes reflective practice and self-care as the three areas are closely linked. There is a strong emphasis on practical examples and best practice in managing boundaries.

Trauma Informed Practice workshop

The purpose of this two day training is to start a conversation about how trauma and adversity affects and has affected those who use the services we provide and the appropriate responses we can implement and offer.

This workshop presents an overview of common mental health problems and it will enable participants to discuss and reflect on the common misconceptions regarding mental health difficulties. It aims to promote positive mental health and self-care in the workplace which has benefits for all.

Drug and Alcohol Awareness/ Substance Misuse

This training course will cover a range of areas to provide participants with a good basic knowledge of drugs and alcohol and related issues. The course aims to raise knowledge and awareness of drugs and alcohol both in relation to the family and in the wider community.

An Introduction to Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Initially known as CBT for Borderline disorder, DBT consists of a series of skills and techniques for working with personality disorders and other areas. This course will explain the concept and would suit those considering becoming a DBT therapist or those referring clients or employees to a DBT service.

Advanced Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) Workshop

Note: Participants are required to provide evidence of having completed an introductory course in DBT in order to join this workshop. DBT consists of a series of skills and techniques for working with personality disorders and other areas. This Advanced DBT course focuses on how to teach clients group skills, how to develop further on these skills in one to one sessions and how to help clients with any form of self-destructive behaviour.

Transgender Awareness Workshop

The aim of this interactive workshop is to enable participants to gain a practical understanding of best practices for working with trans people and their families.

An Introduction to Solution Focused Brief Therapy

Harm Reduction

This training programme will cover the practical approaches to harm reduction and give a structured discourse on the pros and cons of harm reduction. “If a person is not willing to give up his or her drug use, we should assist them in reducing harm to himself or herself and others” (Bunning 1993).

Relapse Prevention

This training is designed to meet the needs of those working within the addiction field in relation to this area by following the Marlatt and Gordon model of relapse prevention and covering some practical applications of this model.
