“The trainer was faultless. He made is easy to ask questions and speak in front of the group. His humour added to the heavier pieces of the course. I loved the interactive exercises. The content was engaging. The course length was perfect. It worked well in a remote environment.”
Angelina Lavelle, Student Advisor, Maynooth University Access Programme
“I liked both theory and practice, but Sean’s presentation skills with humour and simplicity really ‘grounded’ the SFBT concept for me as it cemented some of the skills I am already using, while providing extra tools for my arsenal.”
Deirdre Blewitt, Clinical Support Worker, Mindspace Mayo
“I can honestly say it is a wonderful course with immediate beneficial applications. The course provided me with reassurance and reinforcement of my belief and preferred direction of working with clients while providing new guides of direction and technique that can be applied and adapted as situation requires. Seán Foy does an excellent job at sharing information in an easy to learn method with opportunity to follow up on more information to compliment. Overall I’m delighted and would highly recommend this course to others.”

What is SFBT?
SFBT is a short-term goal-focused therapeutic approach which helps clients change by constructing solutions rather than dwelling on problems. Elements of the desired solution often are already present in the client's life, and become the basis for ongoing change.
The therapist intervenes only to the extent necessary, with treatment usually lasting for less than six sessions. SFBT was developed by Steve de Shazer, Insoo Kim Berg, and the team at the Brief Family Therapy Center of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in the mid-1980's.
The aim of this workshop is to introduce the theory and practice of Solution Focused Brief Therapy and allow the space to practise the skills associated with it.
Participants will receive an emailed copy of the presentation, other supporting documents and links to relevant literature which will enable them to develop their understanding of SFBT appropriate to this level. In each session participants will have the opportunity to observe and participate in role-plays and discussions via Zoom.
On completion of this workshop:
- Participants should be equipped with the tools to develop and build on their own counselling skills
- It is expected that participants will have expanded their existing knowledge, in relation to Solution Focused Brief Therapy within the group
