Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an approach that offers practical ways out of a negative thinking ‘loop’. This therapy is used to help people change thoughts, feelings and behaviours that are causing them problems.

It is based on the idea that our thoughts cause our feelings and behaviours, not external things, like people, situations, and events.  The benefit of this fact is that we can change the way we think to feel/act better even if the situation does not change.

This two day course would be of benefit to organisations where stress and anxiety may be an issue among staff or clients.

What the training will cover

Participants will be provided with an overview of CBT and given the space to practice the skills associated with this approach.

There will be “real” scenarios taken from the group and then worked on using the skills and principles of CBT. This is done to enhance the learning experience and to make the connection between the theory and practice of CBT.

Participants will be asked to contribute in the large group and also in smaller ones. There will be a number of exercises throughout the training that are designed for smaller group work and attendees will be encouraged to participate in role plays to put the theory into practice. 

Participants will receive an emailed copy of the presentation, other supporting documents and links to relevant literature which will enable them to develop their understanding of CBT appropriate to this level. 

The programme will be flexible to the needs of the group. Individual scenarios and experiences will be accommodated and included.

Participants will gain an understanding of the theory of CBT and will be shown the tools to enable them to develop and build on their own CBT skills, which they can practice to alleviate stress and anxiety.
