"A brilliant two days training. Really engaging throughout and very practical tools and tips provided by Sean which is extremely helpful in day-to-day work. The roleplays on the day gave us time to practice at each step of our learning. Despite the nature of some of the case studies we were presented with, Sean managed to keep the group light-hearted in many regards and we ended up having really good fun over the two days too."

"I want to thank Sean Foy first and foremost for his professional knowledge and presenting abilities throughout the course. He demonstrated a thorough understanding of solution-focused brief therapy and was able to effectively and succinctly explain difficult ideas. His teaching style made the material more approachable and promoted a better comprehension of the subject. Sean has a sensitive, well-honed talent coupled with humour for making people feel comfortable, which is essential for helping them learn more efficiently."

“It was an excellent introduction to SFBT. Dr. Foy’s style was refreshingly relaxed, although you could tell that he had a wealth of knowledge and experience. It made the training seem effortless, whilst all the while I was learning new things. The breakout rooms were a very useful tool, facilitated expertly by Dr. Foy.”

What is SFBT?

SFBT is a short-term goal-focused therapeutic approach which helps clients change by constructing solutions rather than dwelling on problems. Elements of the desired solution often are already present in the client's life, and become the basis for ongoing change.

The therapist intervenes only to the extent necessary, with treatment usually lasting for less than six sessions. SFBT was developed by Steve de Shazer, Insoo Kim Berg, and the team at the Brief Family Therapy Center of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in the mid-1980's.
