The Understanding Children's Grief workshop has been approved by An Bord Altranais Nursing Board for 5 Continuing Education Units or CPD credits. For more information click here to visit the An Bord Altranais website.

Children grieve in unique and developmentally appropriate ways which are quite different from the common ways in which adults grieve. Caregivers and treatment providers often do not understand the differences and as a result are not able to fully support children through this process, leading to negative impacts and unresolved grief issues later in life. The purpose of this training is to:

  • Clarify myths surrounding children’s grief
  • Describe characteristics and common responses to grief for children
  • Develop an understanding of the interaction between child development and how grief is expressed
An overview of the tasks of grief and strategies such as support groups for children and their caregivers will also be provided

The Understanding Children’s Grief workshop takes place over 1 full day. This course can also be offered in-house to organisations over 1 or 2 days depending on the level required.
