Dr. Marie Oppeboen

Dr. Marie Oppeboen is a General Adult Consultant Psychiatrist currently working in St John of God Hospital, Dublin and in private practice in Co. Clare. She was the co-founder and CEO of CARMHA (Connection And Recovery in Mental Health & Addiction), a registered charity that provides low threshold counselling and peer-support services for adults with co-existing addiction and mental health issues in North Tipperary.  Marie has been working from a trauma-informed and recovery-oriented perspective throughout her career, and has extensive experience of caring for people with Addiction and Mental Health issues in a variety of clinical settings. 

She has been a champion for the reform towards trauma-informed and recovery-oriented addiction and mental health services, and has been involved in several national forums and committees leading change. She has presented widely at regional and national conferences on the topic of Dual Diagnosis, and twice briefed Oireachtas members in Leinster House around same.  She also regularly lectures on Dual Diagnosis and Trauma-Informed Care in Trinity College Dublin and University of Limerick, and is particularly passionate about working collaboratively and alongside service users/carers in both service development, provision and research.
