Remote Learning: An Introduction to Motivational Interviewing

Developed by Miller and Rollnick, Motivational Interviewing is a client-centred approach that elicits behavioural changes by assisting individuals to explore and resolve ambivalence. "Overall, I had a great experience on the training, the techniques of MI point can’t be understated – I feel they really point toward a whole philosophy of working with clients and empowering and respecting them and their ability to choose. That isn’t always prevalent in this type of work, often people come with the best of intentions but end up undermining a client’s ability to choose for themselves. I think this is essential training for anyone working in this field."

Shannon Rogers, Project Rogers, Dublin Simon, May 2023

"I found the full training very good, totally adapted to my work requirements. I would normally find remote learning very impersonal and the thoughts of the full day online training did not appeal to me. However, Gary had planned variety and breaks throughout which really helped. He ensured there was a very relaxed atmosphere and therefore good interaction by all. Course content was tailored to the needs of the participants. Gary’s own practical experiences added to the learning."

Esther Mooney, Health Promotion Officer, HSE Sligo, February 2022

“Everything worked very well. Really enjoyed the aspect that the participants were listened to and guided the direction of the two days.  Robert’s facilitation was excellent, the training was engaging, informative, very practical, open and honest. It was an inviting environment where I felt comfortable to contribute.”

Joe Murphy, Academic Success Coach, Munster Technological University, February 2022

"The mixture of slides, videos and breakout rooms kept the course interesting and engaging. Robert was extremely engaging, patient and happy to answer any questions we had. The way Robert mixed up the different ways of teaching the course kept it interesting and engaging."
