This 1 day workshop will benefit any organisation or workplace in creating a positive awareness and understanding of mental health. The workshop is designed to educate staff members in key roles to be a Mental Health Promoter for your organisation.

The workshop will provide an overview regarding mental health issues in the workplace. It will allow participants to discuss and reflect on common perceptions and misconceptions regarding mental health issues and aim to reduce stress and lost days in the workplace. 

This one day workshop is accredited with 6 CPD points with the Addiction Counsellors of Ireland (ACI).

Highly recommended for: All Workplaces who wish to promote Positive Mental Health in their organisation. Especially beneficial to Human Resource Staff, Management Staff (all levels), Support Workers, Social Care Workers, Addiction Workers, Family Care Workers, Education and Medical Workers and those who have professional experience dealing with this issue. 

The purpose of our training session in mental health is to equip participants to increase their own understanding of mental health and their awareness of mental ill-health particular to their colleagues or clients and to enchance their skills in working with those who are experiencing a mental health problem.

Programme Duration

1 day workshop is delivered directly to the participants by our experienced Mental Health Awareness lecturer Siobhan Lynch.

Programme certification

A Certificate in "Mental Health In The Workplace" is awarded to all participants.

CPD points: This one day workshop is accredited with 6 CPD points with the Addiction Counsellors of Ireland (ACI).

Programme Aims

The aim of this 1 day workshop is to enable participants to:

  1. Have an awareness of the signs of common mental health difficulties.
  2. Be able to respond sensitively to the client or co-worker. 
  3. Have an understanding of the mental health system - specifically with respect to being able to make appropriate referrals. 
  4. Have an understanding of the role and fuction of the mental health services in Ireland.
  5. How mental health services in Ireland are delivered.  

Programme Content

Awareness of the symptoms and characteristics of common mental health problems.

The experience of mental illness.

Particular mental health issues and common mental health problems in the workplace.

Engaging with the person experiencing mental health problems

The mental health system in Ireland.

Making a referral under the Mental Health Act 2001.

Engaging with the mental health services.

Participants will receive handouts and relevant literature to enable them to develop their understanding of mental health issues in the workplace with clients or colleagues. 

During the presentation participants will have the opportunity to discuss the effects of mental ill-health and how it impacts on the workplace and develop better understandings around assisting/supporting those affected by mental health issues. 

The methodology used in this presentation will be a combination of the following:

Participative: The participants will be asked to contribute to the workshop both in the large groups and also in smaller ones. 

Experiential: The workshop will allow participants to contribute by using examples of anonymous colleagues or clients that they have supported or worked with or are currently supporting / working with.

Theory into practice: The workshop will involve discussions that will encourage participants to put the theory into practice.

Information giving: There will be handouts and information on relevant reading that will be distributed during the training.

Worker led: The workshop will be flexible to the needs of the group.

Learning Outcomes

  • To build on and expand existing knowledge in relation to mental health. 
  • To enhance confidence in participants in relation to their understanding of mental health and best practice to assist. 
  • Increase awareness within the group of ways to support people who are affected by mental health issues. 
  • To build awareness regarding mental health and to enhance knowledge relating to the effects on client, co-worker and the workplace. 
  • To allow space and time for participants to look at their own practice in relation to their own mental health awareness.
  • To allow space and time for participants to reflect on their own practice in relation to working with people who are affected by mental ill-health and use and develop work practices in line with best practice.

Assessment

Assessment will be carried out through group work participation, discussions and exercises.
