The Leaving Cert French oral course has a unique pre-course questionnaire and a post-course podcast which ensures that students focus on the specific areas they need help with during the course and also that they have the right study techniques and approaches to the French oral in the days leading up to the exam. This intensive Leaving Cert French Oral course is a detailed preparation course for the French Leaving cert oral exams. The small class size of just 10 students gives each individual student the opportunity to do a mock French oral exam as part of the course and to really boost their confidence with their spoken French. The following key areas will be covered during the Leaving Cert French Oral course: The Leaving Cert French Oral course is open to both higher level and ordinary level students.
Programme Duration
Due to overwhelming demand the French Leaving Cert Oral course will take place on Saturday February 25th in The Mayo Education Centre, Castlebar and again on Saturday March 3rd in The Sligo Education Centre. Please contact info@thelearningcurve.ie or 098 25530 to book a place.

The Learning Curve Institute offers an intensive Leaving Cert French Oral Course in preparation for the Leaving Cert Oral exams. The French Oral course takes place over 4 hours:
- 9:00am-1:00pm
- Saturday February 25th - Mayo Education Centre, Castlebar
- Saturday March 3rd - Sligo Education Centre, Sligo
The Leaving Cert French Oral course is limited to just 10 students to maximise the learning experience for all students. The small group allows each student to partake in an individual mock oral exam with the tutor during the course.
Programme certification
The Leaving Cert French Oral Course is validated by The Learning Curve Institute. The Learning Curve Institute is an accredited provider of FETAC courses and programmes.
Programme Aims
The aims of the Leaving Cert French Oral Course are:
- to prepare students effectively for the French oral examination.
- to give students the expressions, tools, vocabulary and notes needed to excel in the Leaving Certificate French oral exam.
- to enhance student's pronunciation and sentence structure.
- to enable students to change between verb tenses effectively
Programme Content
BEFORE THE COURSE - Preparation:
Two weeks before the French Leaving Cert Oral course a questionnaire will be distributed to all students which will help the tutor focus in on the precise areas, questions and topics that each student would like to focus on.
DURING THE COURSE - Action:
Students will receive handouts, exam tips, sample answers, marking schemes and detailed notes in line with areas highlighted on their questionnaires to prepare them effectively for the French Leaving Cert oral exam. Each student will have the opportunity to do a detailed mock French oral exam and receive feedback from the course tutor on the day. A variety of topics will be covered during the course to enable students to maximise their grade in the French Oral exam including a selection of abstract topics.
A large proportion of the course will focus on French pronunciation as this is an area highlighted by examiners where students often struggle. At the end of the course each student will be given an individual briefing with areas to focus on and work on before the Leaving Cert French oral exam.
AFTER THE COURSE - Execution:
At the end of the French Oral course each student will fill out a feedback form outlining areas they still need work on. During the month of March each student will then be given access to an online podcast delivered by the course director which will outline specific areas that the students should focus on. The podcast will also give students detailed study tips for the days leading up to the oral exam to ensure that each individual maximises their grade on the day.
Learning Outcomes
- To enhance students understanding and confidence with spoken French
- To equip students with the notes, model answers, study techniques and hints to allow them to excel in the Leaving Certificate French oral exam
- To prepare students effectively for the Leaving Cert French Oral exam
- To develop students’ understanding of the various grammar concepts required for the French Leaving Cert oral exam.
- To help students to move between the required grammar tenses with fluency
- To improve student's pronunciation (this is key to achieving the top grades in the exam)
- To cover all the usual exam questions and topics and to look at various abstract topics
Entry Requirements
Any student who is preparing for the Leaving cert French oral exam can attend this course. It is aimed specifically at Leaving Cert students but fifth year students are also welcome to attend if they wish. The Leaving Cert French oral exam is open to both higher and ordinary level students.
Assessment
There is no assessment on this course however student's will each do a mock Leaving Cert French Oral exam and receive detailed feedback on how to improve their grade before the exam.
Other Information
The Leaving Cert French course and exam preparation programmes is delivered by Head of Languages at The LCI, Liam Printer in The Mayo Education Centre, Castlebar, Co. Mayo and in The Sligo Education Centre, Sligo. Liam is a fluent French speaker who has lived in France and is also an experienced secondary school teacher and adult language school teacher. Liam delivers the October Leaving Cert French Revision course every year for The Learning Curve Institute in Castlebar, Co. Mayo.
The Learning Curve Institute offers a unique post course support system whereby students are provided with the contact details of the lecturer and are free to contact him/her with any questions they may have or even documents (Letters, Postcards etc) that they would like the lecturer to help them with. Access to a podcast delivered by the course tutor will be supplied to each student on completion of the course. This podcast will outline exam tips and study techniques for each student to focus on in the days leading up to the French Oral exam.
Materials
Students of The Leaving Cert French Oral Course will each be supplied with a hardback notebook, folder and pen for the duration of the Leaving Cert French oral course. Students are required to bring a set of exam past papers and a French-English dictionary to every class. No other books are needed as all materials will be supplied by The Learning Curve Institute.
