This intensive Leaving Cert French course and exam preparation is aimed at students who are about to sit their Leaving Cert French exam and takes place in Castlebar, Co.Mayo. It is aimed at Leaving Cert French students who wish to revise all aspects of the French Leaving Certificate programme with a specific emphasis on preparation for the written and aural examinations.

Students are given exam tips, sample answers, marking schemes and various other aids to prepare them for the French Leaving Cert exams. The small class size of just 8 students gives each individual the opportunity to really progress in both the written and aural elements of the curriculum. This programme is open to both higher level and ordinary level students.

Programme Duration

The Learning Curve Institute offers intensive Leaving Cert French revision courses every Saturday during the month of May in Castlebar, Co. Mayo right before the French leaving cert exams to prepare students for the French written and aural parts of the leaving cert exam.

French Leaving Cert Exam Preparation and Revision Course - Castlebar, Co. Mayo - May 2012:

  • 2 hours per day for four Saturdays in May 
  • May 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th 2012

Programme certification

The Leaving Cert French Course and Exam Preparation programme is validated by The Learning Curve Institute

Programme Aims

The aims of the Leaving Cert French Course and Exam Preparation programme are:

  • to revise all aspects of the Leaving Cert French curriculum and to prepare students effectively for the written and aural examinations. 
  • to give students the expressions, tools, vocabulary and notes needed to excel in the Leaving Certificate French exam.
  • to prepare students for the French Leaving cert exam with specific regard to timekeeping, layouts and marking schemes.

Programme Content

Students will receive handouts, worksheets, exam tips, sample answers, marking schemes and notes to broaden their understanding of the French Language specifically for the purposes of the Leaving Cert French written and aural exams. In each 2 hour session students will focus on the various elements of the French Leaving Cert exam and specific emphasis will be put on layout and tips for the written sections of the paper in order to maximise grades.

A large portion of each 2 hour sessions will be allocated to exam technique, key expressions, grammar, texts, written productions, comprehensions and listening. Students will work on various written expressions, listening examinations and reading comprehensions from past examination papers and will be provided with model answers, marking schemes, study tips and various learning techniques to help with their preparation for the Leaving Certificate French exam.

Students will also be able to hand work up to the programme tutor every week which will be corrected and handed back with detailed feedback the following week in order to help the student to eliminate mistakes and maximise their grade in the French Leaving Cert exam.

Learning Outcomes

  1. To enhance students understanding and confidence with listening to French and answering questions. 
  2. To equip students with the notes, model answers and study techniques to allow them to maximse their potential in the Leaving Certificate French exam
  3. To increase students’ knowledge of French vocabulary for reading and listening comprehensions and improve their French written expressions (letters, postcards, diary etc) for the Leaving Cert French exam
  4. To develop students’ understanding of the various grammar concepts required for the French Leaving Cert exam.
  5. To provide students with exam tips, study guides, model answers, techniques and hints in order to excel in the French Leaving Cert exam.

Entry Requirements

This course is open to all Leaving Cert French students. It is open to both higher and ordinary level candidates.

Assessment

There is no assessment for the Leaving cert French course.

Other Information

The Leaving Cert French course and exam preparation programmes is delivered by Head of Languages at The LCI, Liam Printer in The Mayo Education Centre, Castlebar, Co. Mayo. Liam is a fluent French speaker who has lived in France and is also an experienced secondary school teacher and adult language school teacher. Liam delivers the October Leaving Cert French Revision course every year for The Learning Curve Institute in Castlebar, Co. Mayo.

The Learning Curve Institute offers a unique post course support system whereby students are provided with the contact details of the lecturer and are free to contact him/her with any questions they may have or even documents (Letters, Postcards etc) that they would like the lecturer to help them with.

Materials

Students of The Leaving Cert French Course and Exam Preparation Programme will each be supplied with a hardback notebook, folder and pen for the duration of the Leaving Cert French revision course. Students are required to bring a set of exam past papers and a French-English dictionary to every class. No other books are needed as all materials will be supplied by The Learning Curve Institute.

  • The Mayo Education Centre, Castlebar, Co. Mayo
  • 9:00am to 11:00am
  • Saturday May 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th 2011
