French Language for Conversation, Work and Travel
Programme Duration
4 hours per week over 4 weeks. 16 hours total. Intensive French speaking course for people travelling or working in France.
The next course will begin in October 2010.
In order to maximize learning groups will be limited to a maximum of 12 students per class.
About the programme
This programme is aimed at people who have a very basic level of French but who now have an interest in improving their conversation skills or for those people wishing to travel to or work in a French speaking country.
There is a specific emphasis on learning to speak in everyday language and also on key grammar points and phrases in order to be understood when working or travelling in France. The main focus of this course is to increase fluency in spoken French therefore students will be encouraged and helped to speak French at all times in the classroom. Classes will be very much student-centered and the teacher will design the material to be covered around what the students’ objectives and aims are.

Programme Aims
To equip students will the tools to enable them to hold conversations in French, to apply for jobs and work in a French speaking country, and to be able to travel in a French speaking country. To allow students to learn the specific parts of the French language that they desire whether that is in relation to general conversation, working or travelling.
Programme Content
Students will receive handouts, worksheets and notes to enable them to speak, listen, read and write in French using everyday modern language. In each 2 hour session 75% of the class time will be allocated to speaking and the other 25% will be allocated to important grammar points and listening. Students will carry out lots of different scenarios and role plays of situations in order to get them to practice real life situations that arise in a French speaking country.
Learning Outcomes
- To equip students with the tools to be able to hold a conversation in French, apply for a job, work and travel in a French speaking country.
- To build on and expand existing knowledge within the group.
- To enhance confidence in students’ general spoken French ability.
- To equip students with the ability to speak in a manner that is used in everyday language in France and is understood by French speakers.
- To provide students with the tools to form Cover Letters, CVs, emails and other written documents relating to work and travel in France.
Entry Requirements
Basic level of French language and grammar terms or The Certificate in French Language Level 1 from The Learning Curve Institute.
Assessment
Assessment will be carried out through continuous assessment of written pieces, role plays, comprehensions and listening exercises.
Other Information
The Learning Curve Institute offers a unique post course support system whereby students are provided with the contact details of the lecturer and are free to contact him/her with any questions they may have or even documents (CVs, Cover Letters, application forms) that they would like the lecturer to help them with.
Materials
Students will each be supplied with a hardback notebook, folder and pen for the duration of the course. Students are encouraged to bring a French-English dictionary to every class. No other books are needed as all materials will be supplied by The Learning Curve Institute.
