It specializes in the areas of drug and alcohol awareness, addictions, mental health and counselling and boasts a host of experts in these fields. Christmas is a particularly important time to boost awareness of the dangers of drink and drug driving and through this workshop attendees will be introduced to:

  • The impact of new legislation
  • The legal process of being arrested under the influence
  • Consequences of drink driving
  • Effects of alcohol and substances on the driver

This brief workshop will help the learners to gain an understanding of the potential short term and long term consequences of their choice to drink and drive. The workshop will look at alcohol and substance use and help attendees to separate it from their driving.

Programme Duration

This free drug and alcohol awareness workshop for drivers takes place over 3 hours from 6:00pm to 9:00pm

Due to the bad weather and condition of the roads, the workshop scheduled for December 13th in Donegal Town has been cancelled.

Programme Aims

Through discussion and interactive exercises, the aim of the three hour workshop is to enable participants to gain an understanding of the issues of drinking alcohol or taking substances and driving. This information will assist the learners in making informed, positive future choices.

The workshop will outline the impact of new legislation while explaining the process involved in being arrested with a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol or substances, and the possible consequences of this happening. A significant proportion of the workshop is focused at understanding the effect alcohol and various drugs have on the body and brain. This information includes up to date knowledge based on scientific evidence which will again assist the learners in making informed, positive future choices.

Learning Outcomes

To build on, and expand existing knowledge relating to the effects of alcohol and drugs, specifically the effects of drinking and driving. To encourage positive future choices through delivering up to date health information and through facilitating group discussion regarding alcohol and drug use and driving. To allow space and time for discussing the wider social impact drink driving has in Ireland.
